Beverly lacrosse team make state tourney

The Beverly High boys lacrosse team is a long way from its main goal of winning a state title, but at least the Panthers are going to the postseason.

Joe Reinold scored the game-winning goal with four minutes left and goalie Kevin Ranta made a spectacular save in the final seconds to preserve a 10-9 win over Marblehead yesterday. The Panthers improved to 9-7 and earned a berth in the state tourney with two regular season games remaining.

Famigletti helps Peabody nip Marblehead

Despite playing two of the last four minutes down a man, the Tanners outlasted Marblehead 8-7 thanks in part to a late kick save from goalie Justin Famigletti, who totaled 23 stops. Billy Daly provided the offense for Peabody (11-4) with four goals while Derek West, Mike Martin and Mike Pennachio each added a goal and an assist.

Will Beringer scored three times and added a helper on the Marblehead side, as the Magicians came within a goal late but could never knot the score.

Fishermen rebound to top Marblehead 7-6

The Fishermen rebounded from a loss to Marblehead last week, with a much-needed win this time around.

Jeremy Fanning scored a hat trick for Gloucester (5-7), while Joe Falzarano and Jared Toye also added goals.

Santos powers Masco

Ben Santos scored four goals to help the Chieftains (10-3) officially qualify for the postseason with an 8-4 win over Ipswich. Danny Clark chipped in a pair of goals and Mike Braums dished out three assists as Masco mounted a 5-2 lead by halftime. Cobb Mathey scored three of the four goals on the Ipswich side.

Marblehead comes from behind to nip Swampscott

Eric Fader, Will Beringer and Aaron Reny each scored two goals as Marblehead (6-4) came from three goals down to nip the rival Big Blue, 10-9. Ben Wollersheid scored four times as Swampscott jumped ahead 7-4 before the Magicians rallied. Nick Tobin, Jackson Barber, Mike Cohn and Ellery Smith also notched goals for Marblehead.

Generals get past Magicians

Three goals courtesy of senior attack Jake Cotter helped the Generals (2-3) bounced back with a 9-5 win over Marblehead. Longpole Corey Daff added a goal and Ryan Gengreau also scored as Hamilton-Wenham led 4-2 at half and gradually increased their advantage after the break. Will Beringer and Jackson Barber had goals for the Magicians.
