Hornets fall in OT

 

NEWBURYPORT — North Reading outrushed Newburyport by a 3-1 margin last night, but the Hornets got stopped when it counted most — on the last play of the game.

After a 21-21 stalemate after regulation, both teams scored in overtime. But newburyport threw for two points to give it 29 while the Hornets' rush through the line was stopped just short of the goal line, giving the Clippers the 29-27 victory.

Pentucket overcomes early deficit, rally to defeat rival Newburyport

WEST NEWBURY — It may not have been a playoff matchup, but that didn’t mean that Pentucket was about to approach Saturday with anything less that postseason intensity.

Facing heavy rain and a sopping field that left players ankle deep in mud, the Sachems saw Newburyport jump out to a nine-point lead before Pentucket recovered with a dominant second half on the way to earning a 22-9 victory over their neighboring rival Clippers.
