Milford holds off Raiders

Despite striking out 17 times against three-time state Gatorade Player of the Year Shannon Smith, Central Catholic had the tying run on base in the sixth inning before falling to Milford, 3-0, in the Division 1 semifinals. Krista Maloney's double and a pair of walks loaded the bases with two outs before a strikeout ended the Raiders' lone rally of the night. Leslie Moore had Central's other hit, a second-inning single, while drawing a pair of walks.

LOWELL — After nearly three hours and 10 innings on the field, a one-hour delay, an 0-for-4 night — and about two hours past her bed time — Central Catholic’s Allison Cavanaugh stepped to the plate with the chance to be the hero in possibly the most epic game in Raider softball history.

Rambling Raiders

 

Central Catholic's softball team got five runs in the second inning and didn't let up, blasting Woburn 14-2 in the Division 1 North first round. Leadoff batter Krista Maloney had two hits and five RBIs to lead the way and Olivia Antczak had three of the Raiders' 20 hits.

Missing Maloney

 

Central Catholic, playing without leadoff batter Krista Maloney, fell to Burlington for the second time this season, 7-0.  Maloney is out indefinitely with a concussion suffered against Tewksbury Tuesday.

Antczak ends it

 

Central Catholic pitcher Olivia Antczak wasn't at the top of her game offensively or defensively, but she delivered in the clutch with a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the ninth for an 8-7 win over Methuen. Leslie Moore had a solo homer, three hits and three RBIs for the Raiders and Madison Borrelli was 3 for 4 and scored twice. Kat LeFebre had a grand slam for the Rangers.
