Matt Bauchman finished his remarkable career in style with all four Methuen goals in a 4-1 win over Haverhill. That gave him 20 for the year and 92 for his career. The Rangers also got stellar efforts from seniors Tom Moore, T.J. Gannon, Jordan Blatti and Brandon Blum.

Matt Bauchman, Brandon Blum, T.J. Gannon, Ryan Bradley and Nick Yameen starred for Methuen, which lost a tough 4-3 decision to once-beaten Lincoln-Sudbury.

Salem's girls basketball team won its third straight game, 57-43, over Manchester Central. Emily Hickey led the way for the Bklue Devils (9-5) with four 3-pointers among her 16 points while Brenna Blakslee added 12 points.

With his second goal of the game, Matt Bauchman capped Methuen's comeback from a two-goal deficit to defeat North Andover, 5-4.

Capping a fierce flurry of shots with seven minutes left in the game, Bauchman gathered a long rebound and whipped the puck into the open far side of the net for the game-winner, the Rangers' second after 12 winless efforts.

Methuen boys hockey earned its first win of the year, 2-1 over Dracut, behind a two-goal effort from Matt Bauchman and a 22-save performance by Christian Mazzone. 

Methuen hockey nearly had its first win of the year, and a major upset at that, but Danvers (7-3-2) scored with about seven minutes left in a 1-1 tie. Matt Bauchman had the goal, Chris Milone (17 saves) shined in net and Dylan Yameen and Mike Baglieri played fine all-around games.

Methuen's hockey team has done everything but win recently as it showed in a 6-4 loss to Gloucester. The Rangers held a 4-2 lead after two periods and outshot Gloucester 42-16, but they couldn't hold on. "We've played our best three games in six years the last week but we can't get a win," sighed Methuen coach Denny Egan.

Methuen senior Mike O'Donnell set a new school indoor record in the 800 meters yesterday at an open meet at Boston yesterday, recording a sizzling 1:55.25, four seconds ahead of the runner-up finisher. That ties him for eighth best all-time in the region and breaks the Methuen indoor record by more than two seconds, previously held by Erik Colon.

In his first varsity game as starting goalie, Methuen junion Austin Brown "was fantastic" according to head coach Denny Egan, recording 30 saves in a 1-1 tie with Tewksbury.
