Central makes North final

WOBURN — State champion just two years ago, Central Catholic is hungry to get it back.

The Raider girls soccer squad gritted its way to the Division 1 North title game with a 1-0 win over Lincoln-Sudbury last night.

"It's nice to be back playing for a North championship," said Raiders coach Casey Grange, whose squad will face Beverly Sunday, 2:30 p.m., at Manning Field in Lynn.
"I can't say enough about their competitiveness.This team just refuses to lose."
 
Alli Wiggins netted the game's lone goal, 10 minutes into the second half on a sweet cross from Courtney Walsh, The Raiders made it stick.
 
"We knew we weren't going to have many chances, so we had to make this one stick," said Grange. "Our back line (Darion Summers, Erin Berube, Beth May and Maggie Carey) was a brick wall.
 
"Alexa Poulin was dynamite shadowing their top player, too,"
 
Lauren Flynn made six saves as the 15-0-4 Raiders posted shutout No. 11 on the year.

Second-half surge

Once Kylie Regan scored in the second half, Central Catholic's offense soared to a 6-1 girls soccer tourney victory over 19th seed Lexington.

"We were dominating the entire game but our early shots were all going over the net," said Central head coach Casey Grange as her squad trailed 1-0 at halftime. "Once Kylie got us on the board, the floodgates opened."

Andover pushes Raiders to limit

Alli Wiggins scored the equalizer with 75 seconds left to play, preserving Central Catholic's unbeaten season at 12-0-3 after a 1-1 tie with Andover. Veronica Alois had put Andover up 1-0 with the earlier goal.
