Newton North just needed one big inning to top Methuen, 5-1, and advance in the Division 1 North tourney. Jessica Rader stroked a triple and scored the Rangers' lone run on a wild pitch. Courtney Bradley also tripled while freshman Angelina Correia doubled.

Bradley, Methuen edge North Andover

Scionti shines

 

Chrissy Scionti pitched a one-hit gem, striking out nine without walking a batter, as Methuen blanked Pentucket 3-0. Nicole Perusse was 2 for 2, scored a run and drove in a run.

Fantastic finish

In what coach Steve Tisbert termed, "Probably the biggest win we've had this year," Andover responded to a tough 10th inning by scoring three runs in the bottom of the frame to upset Methuen, 4-3. After battling to a 1-1 deadlock through regulation, three errors plated two Methuen runs in the top of the 10th. Taylor Farris' two-run double tied the game for the Warriors and, with one out, Jordan Day's single brought home the game-winner. Cassandra Hunt struck out a season-high seven for the victory, getting good defensive help from catcher Shannon Tully, third baseman Day and center fielder Nicole Ericson.

Tourney qualifier

 

Methuen's softball team edged Tewksbury, 7-6 in nine innings under the lights to qualify for the tournament for the 10th straight year. Roseli Rodriguez drove in the winning tun to make a winner of Chrissy Scionti. Sydney Littlefield had three hits, including a three-run triple in the sixth.

Blast of Bradley

 

Courtney Bradley hit a two-run homer well over the 220-foot fence in center fieldand had thre hits and three RBIs and Sydney Littlefield was 4 for 4 and scored three runs as Methuen clipped Billerica 7-1. Chrissy Scionti pitched another gem for the Rangers (8-5), this time a four-hitter.

Courtney Bradley had an RBI double in the bottom of ther sixth, knocking in Roseli Rodriguez, who opened the inning with a bunt single, as Methuen rallied past scrappy Haverhill 5-4. Caitlyn McHugh was 2 for 3 with an RBI and run scored for Haverhill.

Courtney Bradley and Nicole Perusse, batting in the third and fourth spots, were both 4 for 4 and had hits in the top of the eighth to key a 6-4 Methuen victory over Tewksbury. Bradley had a double and triple and scored three runs for the Rangers (5-3).

Central beats Rangers in 9 innings

Central Catholic, the fourth-ranked team in the state, beat Methuen 3-2 in nine innings when winning pitcher Olivia Antczak (6-hitter, 15 K's) scored Nicole Howe on a deep sacrifice fly to left. Chrissy Scionti was brilliant in defeat, firing a four-hitter and holding the Raiders hitless through four innings.
