Browne places second in 300

St. John's Prep sprinter Bryan Browne of Georgetown finished second in the 300 meter sprint (35.40) at the Tri County track and field league championship.

Browne's time was the second fastest time for the 300 in school history.

Londonderry almost pulled off a big upset in a defensive war against Merrimack, just falling short, 41-40. Drew Coveney kept the Lancers close with his 17-point effort including a 5 for 7 effort from 3-point range.

With just over 30 seconds to go in the game, Ryan McClure made a steal at half court, drove in for a layup — his only basket of the game — was fouled and hit the free throw to give Londonderry a 39-37 victory over Spaulding.

After trailing much of the night, Londonderry took the lead with two minutes left and won on Ben Flanders' 3-pointer with six seconds remaining, beating Haverhill, 61-58. Brian McClure stoked the winning Lancer offense with seven assists. Sophomore Anthony Dionne led the Hillies with 21 points.
