Felipe Guimaraes has been consistently good for Whittier, but yesterday he stepped up his game and drove the Wildcat offense. But even with Guimaraes' play, Whittier couldn't rebound from a first-half deficit and lost to Chelsea, 3-2.

Whittier qualifies -- big



Whittier's boys soccer team qualified for the state tournament in a big way, blasting Minuteman 11-2. Dany Belanger led the way with a hat trick and Jacob Fudge and Steven Quimby scored twice, Quimby's being his first varsity goals. Also scoring for the first time for the Wildcats (9-5) were Dakota Muirhead and Rafael Centariczki.

Breaking through

Mike Goodwin's goal with four minutes left in the game gave Lawrence its first win of the season, 3-2 over a Whittier squad that beat the Lancers 3-0 last week. Goodwin scored twice while Eric Carranza excelled moving from forward to defense and Eddy Salmoran and Anthony Ry also impressed for the winners.

Filling the bill

With leading goal scorer Danny Belanger out due to injury, sophomores Luis Cortes and Jacob Fudge filled his role admirably in Whittier's 9-0 blowout of Minuteman. Cortes took Belanger's spot and responded with four goals while Fudge added a pair of scores and an assist.
