North Reading's surging softball team won its eighth straight and handed Amesbury (16-1) its first loss of the season, 2-1. Terri Ferrazzani threw a four-hitter, striking out five without walking a batter and also drove in the first run for North Reading (10-5). Shelby Carney had an RBI as well as two hits.
