Andover drops heartbeaker

Andover allowed four runs in the top of the ninth, and left the bases loaded in the bottom of the inning as the Golden Warriors lost an 8-6 heartbreaker to Boston Latin in the Division 1 North preliminary round. Cam Farnham continued his late-season surge, going 2 for 2 with an RBI for the Warriors.

Driscoll MVP

With his RBI double — the only extra base hit of the title game, plus a bases-loaded walk, Alex Driscoll was named MVP of the Peabody Tourney won by Andover, 9-4 over the host school. Owen McAvinchey tossed 6 1/3 innings of three-hit ball for the victory, striking out seven.

Andover rocks Everett

 

Andover rode another Dustin Hunt gem into the finals of the Peabody Baseball Tournament, dusting Everett, 8-4, last night. The sophomore Hunt went the route, spacing 10 hits and a pair of walks, while striking out three.

Shutout at LeLacheur

Sophomore Cam Farnham ripped two RBI doubles, Sean McQuillan drove in two runs with sacrifice flies and leadoff man Alex Driscoll locked up the win with a seventh-inning run-scoring triple as Andover knocked off Dracut, 6-0. Jon Levinson scattered six hits and struck out nine for the Warriors in the Spinner Cup consolation game.

Happy birthday, Brian

Senior Brian Allen gave himself a nice birthday present — a two-hit, three-RBI effort from the ninth spot in the lineup as Central Catholic humbled Andover, 13-3. After throwing a complete game victory at St. Mary's of Lynn less than 24 hours before, Paul Trabucco went 2 for 4 and scored three runs in another strong offensive game for the Raiders.

Andover completed its two-game sweep of New Hampshire Division 1 powers by edging Nashua North, 2-1. With the score tied, sophomore Andrew Deloury was hit by a pitch and moved to third on Burton Deady's pinch-single. With two outs, he scored the game-winner when Cam Farnham beat out an infield hit. Dustin Hunt earned the complete-game win, striking out three in a six-hitter.

Two outs? No problem

On the bubble for a postseason berth, Methuen came through in the clutch with its 7-1 victory over Andover. Starting with winning pitcher Cal Carroll's RBI in the first inning, the Rangers plated five runs with two outs. Carroll battled through drizzly conditions to toss a five-hitter and got precious breathing room via Eric Lacroix's run-scoring single in the sixth inning.
