Hornets dominate Marblehead, earn trip to North finals

The Manchester Essex field hockey team has finally made it over the hump.

After five straight years of falling in the Division 2 North semifinal, the Hornets have reached the final. Their ticket was punched after a 2-0 win over Marblehead yesterday at North Andover High School's Joe Walsh Field.

Marblehead advances

Tori Snow clicked for an unassisted strike 22 minutes into the game to lift Marblehead to the Div. 2 North semifinals, where the Magicians will meet Manchester Essex (date TBA). Libby Levine made seven saves for the shutout.

Marblehead defeats Hamilton-Wenham to advance

Michelle Manly notched two goals and an assist to power the Magacians to the MIAA Division 2 North quarterfinals. Taylor Callahan registered a goal and dished out two assists, Magie McMullen tallied the final goal, and keeper. Libby Levine made five saves to hold the Generals scoreless.

Marblehead's Callahan named NEC MVP

Senior standout Taylor Callahan of Marblehead was named Most Valuable Player of the Northeastern Conference in field hockey yesterday as the conference coaches selected their annual all-star team.

Callahan, who has scored 10 goals this season, was joined on the team by three of her Marblehead teammates: seniors Tori Snow, Courtney Colantuno and Michele Manley.

Maggie McMullen recorded the game-winning goal off a Kari Osbourne assist. Libby Levine made eight saves for the Magicians (7-2-1).

Marblehead bests Danvers

Taylor Callahan scored two goals, leading Marblehead to a 2-1 Northeastern Conference win over host Danvers. Courtney Colantuno and Tori Snow assisted on Callahan's goals while midfielders Hillary Franklin and Kaitlin Taylor also played well for the Magicians (5-1). Marblehead goalie Libby Levine made seven stops in the win.

Taylor Callahan and Tori Snow led a balanced Marblehead attack with a goal a piece as the Magicians scored in each half to defeat Peabody 2-0. Tanner Rebecca Mullen was outstanding in the goal, knocking aside 18 shots in the loss.

Michelle Manley, Magicians too much for Gloucester

Marblehead broke an early 1-1 tie with two quick goals to pull away from Gloucester 5-3. Michelle Manley paced the Magicians attack with a pair of goals and two assists while Tori Snow, Maggie McMullen and Stephanie Herbst also found the back of the net for Marblehead (1-0). Goaltender Libby Levine made 15 saves to collect her first win of the season.

Marblehead scores six times to defeat Revere

Marblehead (3-1) defeated Revere (1-3) with a flurry of goals. Of Marblehead's six, Taylor Callahan had two and Tori Snow, Michelle Manley, Maggie McMullen and Sarah Foss each had one. Snow, Manley and McMullen also picked up an assist apiece. Marblehead keeper Libby Levine stopped six shots, and Kari Osbourne and Courtney Colantuno both played well on the defensive end.
