OVERVIEW: As one coach put it, "The two usual suspects should be the top two teams again."
With a seemingly never-ending feeder systems, both defending champion Masconomet and Wilmington indeed appear poised to battle it out for the top spot in the large once again.
North Andover will look to turn the page on the Andrew Foote era, while Pentucket looks to restore its winning tradition after enduring its worst record in 10 years. Look for Lawrence, which turned out over 130 players, to air it out this fall with a new spread offense.
The CAL Small race could be far more crowded. Defending champ Ipswich graduated nearly everyone, while Hamilton-Wenham has much of its 7-3 squad back. With virtually everyone back from a .500 season a year ago, Amesbury is also poised to emerge as a definite player in the title chase. North Reading, with eight returning two-way starters, could make some noise if it stays healthy.
Cape Ann League alignment:
Upper division: Wilmington, Pentucket, Masconomet, North Andover, Lawrence.
Lower division: Amesbury, Newburyport, Ipswich, Hamilton-Wenham, North Reading, Lynnfield.
