Ipswich 43, Pentucket 43

Pentucket got a nice come-from-behind tie against Ipswich as Bre Yocum (high jump, qualified for CALs), Sarah Pearsall (shot put), Amy Babeu (2-mile, qualified for states), April O'Brien (1000), and Alanna Poretta (mile) all had first place finishes. Additionally Sammy Morrow qualified for CALs in the 55m.

Higgins dominates at Dartmouth Relays

At the 40th Annual Dartmouth Relays in Hanover, Salem sophomore Melissa Higgins won the 300 meter dash with a time of 41.50. Higgins bested a field of over 70 runners from all over New England as she blew away the competition, beating the next best runner by 1.49 seconds and setting a new Salem High School record in the event.

Double winner

North Andover's Candice Waldie tossed the shot put 30-9 then combined with teammates Julia Varoutsos, Alex Cunningham and Emily O'Brien to win the 4x400 relay un a time of 4:45.4.  The win improves North Andover to 4-0.

North Reading wins relay, ties Wilmington

Running her first anchor leg this season, Laura Bellino registered the fastest 400 split time of the race at an opportune moment as North Reading came back to tie Wilmington, 43-43. Bellino joined with Kristy Conway, Brittany Angiolillo and Jen Shields to win the meet's final event and achieve the deadlock. Angiolillo also won the 300 (42.6) for the Hornets (1-2-1) while Shields placed second in the high jump and third in the 600. Kaitlin DaCosta ran a swift 1:47.4 to win the 600 for North Reading.

Pentucket had a stellar meet in a win over Lynnfield. Emily Funk (40 hurdles, 6.6), Brittany Adams (40 dash, 5.6), Amy Babeu (2-mile, 12:55), Sarah Pearsall (shot, 27-6.5), Stephanie Fitzgerald (300, 43.3), Valerie Grim (600, 1:43, April O'Brien (1000, 3:13), Alanna Poretta (mile, 5:38), and the 4x400 relay team of Bernadette Corrado, Julia Quattrini, Breanna Yocum, and Grim (4:57) all had first place finishes for the Sachems.

For the Indians Alyssa Harrison had a first place finish in the high jump.

Wilmington 57, Pentucket 29

Pentucket's April O'Brien (1,000, 3:13.7) and Alanna Poretta (mile, 5:27.3) each won their individual event in both meets. Emily Funk (55-meter hurdles, 9.8) also won an individual event against North Andover. Amy Babeau (2-mile, 12:35.7), Breanna Yocum (high jump, 4-6), Julia Quattrini (600, 1:51.6) and the 4x400 relay team (4:35.0) of Bernadette Corrado, Quattrini, O'Brien and Yocum placed first against Wilmington.

Quick start for North Andover

The North Andover girls track team kicked the season off with a pair of victories against Pentucket (51.5-34.5) and Wilmington (58-28). Particularly impressive in the Scarlet Knights' 2-0 showing were Karissa Mako (2-0 in the 2-mile, 12:18.2), Shannon O'Connor (2-0 in the 300, 43.4) and Emily Samuelman (2-0 in the 600, 1:49.4). Candace Waldie (31-0 throw in the shot put) and Krissey Whitley (4-9 height in the high jump) also posted two wins.

For the Clippers Caroline Barnaby tied a school record high jump at 5-2, Jeanmarie Chaney (40, 5.38), Sara Tancreti (HH, 6.65), Melissa Derrico (shot put, 29-4.5) and Hannah McCormick (600, 1:42) all had wins.

Moira Cronin kicked off her sophomore season in style, winning the 50 hurdles (7.9) and high jump (5-1) and leading the 4x400 relay to victory (4:30.9) as Andover bested Lawrence 83-2. Emily Shields added a first in the 50 for the winners.
