Jacques record lifts Devils

Max Jacques ran a school record 6-3 to win the 55 meters to lead Salem to a win in a five-team meet. Runner-up Pinkerton got school records from Jake Hawkins in the 1,500 (4:00.6) and Chris Pietrocarlo in the 1,000 (2:34.0).

Guinto ties school record

Eric Guinto tied the Pinkerton school record with a 6.54 to place third in the 55 meters at the prestigious Dartmouth Relays. He equalled the mark set by former Class L champ Mike Grella. Chris Pietrocarlo took a fourth in mile in 4:24.3.

Winterfest wonderland

Central Catholic shined at the Winterfest Large School meet at Reggie Lewis including a victory by Jason Martin, Trae Musumarra, Luis Penzo and Chris Wilbar in a state-leading team 1:32.89. Martin also was second in the dash.

Merrimack 47, Pinkerton 43

Despite sweeps in the hurdles and the 600, Pinkerton dropped a 47-43 verdict to Merrimack. Joe DiSalvo won a barn-burner in the 1,500 as did Eric Guinto in the dash, beating their Merrimack opponents by one-tenth of a second each.

Methuen picked a dramatic way to open its season.

With the meet to be decided on the the final event, the team of Steven Lilja, Cameron Kelley, Ben Pare and Jarred Reddy combined to cruse to victory in the 4x400 relay in 3:49.7 and give the Rangers a 46-40 win over Dracut. Kelley (1,000) and Reddy (mile) each added an individual win.

According to coach Sully Grella, Armando Bucciarelli's first place 6-4 1/2 high jump leap in Central Catholic's 62-24 victory over Chelmsford is now the new area best in the event. Also claiming firsts for the Raiders were John DiBitetto (dash), Mike Sullivan (hurdles), Brandon Walsh (300), Victor Silva (1,000), Nate Webber (mile) and Zack Borrelli (shot put).

Haverhill 43, Lawrence 39

In a really close battle, Haverhill broke into the winning column with a 43-39 victory over Lawrence. Tim Nutter paced the victory for the Hillies (1-4) as he was triumphant in the hurdles (7.6) and the high jump (5-6). Adderly Gonzalez continued a soild season for the Lancers (1-4), winning the 600 (1:21.2) and running the anchor leg in the victorious relay.
