Hornets hold LeFort

Kara LeFort — the only non-senior in the North Reading lineup, battled for a three-set victory as part of a 4-1 non-league victory over Malden. The sophomore rebounded from an opening set loss at second singles to tie things up, 6-0, only to face a tiebreaker in the deciding set. LeFort dominated the tiebreaker, 7-2, to take the triumph.

Nearly flawless

Methuen earned three big points in yesterday's 4-1 victory over Tewksbury thanks to 6-0, 6-0 wins from Julie Platz (second singles), Kim Wentworth (second singles), and the second doubles team of Hannah Westerman and Anna Mueller. First singles player Katie Cosgrove allowed just two points in her first game, winning 6-2, 6-0.

Not easily done, but Timberlane's girls' tennis team swept Winnacunnet, 9-0. Rachel Bushey took an 8-6 barnburner in fourth singles while the tandem of Stephanie Andrade and Chelsey Sproul prevailed, 8-6, in second doubles for the Owls (6-2).

Central Catholic's 4-1 girls' tennis triumph over Chelmsford was a lot closer than the score appears. Maggie Hillman rebounded from a 5-2 second-set deficit to win at second singles. The first doubles pairing of Sarah Costello and Lauren Boehm shook off a 6-2 opening set loss to win in three sets for the Raiders (8-1). In second doubles, Audrey Tyrell and Mandy Hashem won a first set tiebreaker on route to a two-set victory.
