Junior Alex Shumway made it five for five at third singles in North Andover's 4-1 boys tennis win at Ipswich.

Haverhill's No. 2 singles player Kyle Angstadt and No. 2 doubles player Matt DiPietro both celebrated their 18th birthday yesterday with impressive wins over Lawrence. The boys took care of the tennis, Matt's mother took care of the birthday cupcakes.

Newburyport posted its first victory over North Andover in more than 10 years. Nick Filipancic clinched the match with his victory (6-3, 6-1) over Alan Ngyen in first singles. Ryan Keenan and Charlie Knowlton won their first doubles match (3-6, 7-6, 7-5) for Newburyport. Tony Dube and Hunter Seabrook won at second doubles (6-4, 6-3).

Ryan Swanson (6-1, 5-7, 6-1) and Ryan Clancey (6-1, 6-2) won their singles matches for Pentucket (1-1). Taylor Beaton and B.G. Smith won at first singles (6-4, 7-5). Nate Dames and Pat Dahn won at second doubles (6-2, 6-2).

Andover topped Boston Latin, 4-1, after taking two out of three singles matches and both doubles. Bjorn Merinder won 6-3, 7-6 (7-1) in first singles, and the doubles team of Shane Huggins and Nitin Mahesh won 6-1, 6-1.

The North Andover boys and girls tennis teams both registered 4-1 victories over Pentucket. Peter O'Neill won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, and Rachel Muller won 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 in first doubles for the girls. The Knights were a perfect 4-0 in doubles play. Pentucket's Ryan Swanson won 4-6, 6-4, 3-1 in first singles when Alan Nguyen was forced to retire due to injury.
