MVC Individual championship

Andover's Eric Hooker fired a 73 to earn the top spot at the Merrimack Valley Individaul Golf championship. Hooker led the pack of 27 golfers. Teammate Sean Burke fired a 75 to finish second overall. Haverhill's Tim LeBlanc finished sixth overall with a 79. Central Catholic's top golfer was Dylan Ryan (80).

Undefeated at 50

Sean Burke fired a 4-under 32 to lead Andover to a 17.5-2.5 win over Chelmsford. It was the Golden Warriors' 50th straight MVC meet without a loss. Eric Hooker won 1-up to stay undefeated for the season.

Haverhill's golf team qualified for state tournament play with its 15-5 victory over Methuen. Medalist John Orsillo led the Hillies, 9-5-1, with a 36 to win his match 4 and 3. Craig Farley and Jim Murphy also pitched in with victories for Haverhill. Methuen was led by Mark Fisher, who won his match 3 and 2.

Haverhill's Tim LeBlanc notched an impressive eagle on a par-5 at Haverhill Country club. On his third shot, he found the cup from 170 yards out with his 6-iron. LeBlanc shot a 36 on the day and the Hillies beat Central Catholic 111/2-81/2.

Redemption time

Pinkerton senior golfer Greg Pogga knew he didn't play well when his team lost to Salem by one point earlier in the season and he did something about it yesterday.

Pogga shot a 37, five strokes better than in the previous matchup as the Astros (14-1) upended Salem by three strokes, 189-192. Both teams cruised past Memorial and Nashua North.
