Sachems advance

Pentucket's girls lacrosse adnaced past the first round of the state tournament for the third straight year, defeating Tewksbury 23-18. Vanessa Cahill and Brianna Yocum both scored six goals for the Sachems (11-6), who will play St. Mary's in Lynn tomorrow at 7 p.m. in the next round, and Hillary Dandurant made 16 saves.

Pinkerton outlasted Exeter to come away with a big 15-13 overtime win. Heather Carr led the team in points with two goals and six assists, Kacie Connal had a team-high four goals, and Nikki Curry chipped in a hat trick, as well.

Londonderry crushes Salem

Londonderry erupted for 11 first-half goals and crusied by Salem 17-2. Kayla Green had six goals and two assists for the Lancers and Jenny Thompson netted a hat trick to go with an assist. With the win Londonderry improves to 14-0 in class.

Emma Peditto tallied four goals and four assists for Triton (11-7). Natalie Sullivan netted four goals and an assist. Jill Gallagher (3 goals, 1 assist), Mac Scanlon (3 goals, 1 assist), Julie Parker (2 goals, 2 assists), Kaitlin Muller (2 goals), Erin Curley (2 goals), Jen Rock (1 goal, 3 assists), and Olivia Galivan (1 goal, 1 assist) also scored points. Kristin Roberts made nine saves.

The Sachems (9-6) beat the Clippers on their last regular season home game, 18-7, and gave fond farewells to seniors Zoe McKenzie, K.C. Jones, Sarah Evers, Kayla Jewett, Autumn Gadd, and Kayla Melville. Jones (5 goals and 2 assists), Brianna Yocum (3 goals and 1 assist), Jewett (2 goals and 1 assist), Stephanie Fitzgerald (2 goals and 1 assist), Vanessa Cahill (2 goals and 1 assist), Zoe McKenzie (1 goal and 1 assist), Shannon Beaton (1 goal), Valerie Grimm (1 goal), Sarah Kopaciewicz (1 goal), Sarah Evers (1 assist), and Sarah Higgins (1 assist) all recorded points in the win. Jones, Jewett, and Melville were named to the CAL All-Star team, and Yocum was named to the CAL All-League team.

Londonderry held Pinkerton to just a pair of goals in yesterday's 8-2 victory. Kayla Green, Marcie Marino and Dana Boyle all recorded a pair of tallies. Said coach Bob Slater, "To hold a team like Pinkerton to two goals, it says a lot for the defensive side of our game."

Double milestone

Shannon Hartford tallied her 500th career point on the same day Georgetown clinched its third straight CAL Division 2 small title as the Royals downed North Reading, 13-8. Hartford finished with 11 points (six goals, five assists) while April Surette turned aside 15 shots to secure the win. Chandler Knight had a hat trick for the Hornets.

For the year in a row, Georgetown secured the out-right CAL Divsion 2 small title, and in the process Shannon Hartford (6 goals, 5 assists) secured her 500th career point. All in all a big day for the Royals.

Jenn Pino's fourth goal was her biggest as she scored with 1:09 to play to lift North Andover (15-3) to a huge 8-7 win over a tough Reading squad. Katie Kleiendorft had a goal and three assists and goalie Stephanie Taylor made 18 saves.

7's lucky for Sullivan

Heather Sullivan racked up a season-high seven goals as Andover edged Chelmsford, 13-12.

Trailing 12-9 with three minutes to play, the Lions stormed back to even the score, netting the equalizer with 0:38 to go. It was Sullivan, however, that put home the game-winner on an uncontested shot in front of the net after a Chelmsford turnover. Said coach John McVeigh, "This team just shows a ton of heart and (the win) keeps us alive to win a share of the league title."
