With the score knotted at 3-3 after four, Pinkerton notched two runs in the bottom of the sixth and blanked Nashua South in the seventh to win, 5-3. Cara Chooljian smacked a two-run homer and also picked up the win as the Astros improved to 2-0.

North Reading 6, Newburyport 3

The Clippers (4-2) only had four hits to North Reading's nine, and recorded five strike outs to North Reading's six. The Clippers made five errors on the afternoon. Newburyport was highlighted by a three-run Lindsey Tomasz home run.

Pentucket 7, Lynnfield 6

The Sachems (2-3) won their second game in a row thanks to a nice showing from pitcher Julie-Anne Meehan who threw a complete game with seven strike outs, four walks, and six hits. Sarah Dickinson (3 for 3, RBI) knocked in the game-winner on a suicide squeeze, and Nicole Chevalier (2 for 3, 2 RBIs) had a strong game.

No stopping Sarah

Sarah Erlandson is doing it all for 2-1 Georgetown — she went 3 for 4 and drove in four at the plate and also racked up 15 strikeouts over six innings as the Royals dismantled Manchester Essex, 15-0. Erlandson allowed just four hits and has registered strikeout totals of 14, 15 and 15 in Georgetown's first three games. Sarah Osborne and Cally O'Connor chipped in a pair of RBI apiece, as well.

Wildcats rally

Greater Lawrence crushed Whittier in the opening frame, putting up nine runs to the Wildcats' two, but Shannon Dube sparked a huge rally with her tremendous pitching to help the 'Cats come away with the 15-12 victory. Dube limited the Reggies to three runs (all in the sixth) while striking out seven in six innings of relief. Kendra Hobbs had a homer and four RBI, while Emily Pomer and Kristina Terry each knocked in three.

Salem's softball team did its best to hold down the score, but it still crushed Manchester West by an unseemly 32-0 in just four and a half innings. Salem, in its first game of the season, scored 14 runs in the first inning as 18 batters came to the plate. Julia Gray had a three-run homer in the inning.

Central Catholic sophomore Brianna Martin had a home run taken away from her in the fifth when the umpire thought her smash over the fence bounced over for a double, but she scored the winning run in the eighth on a single by freshman Kayla Maloney in a tense 3-2 win over Billerica. Tina Eringis remained hot, going 3 for 3 with an RBI and run scored and Liz Habib went the distance, striking out 12, for the win.

Julie Ann Meehan picked up the complete-game victory for Pentucket (1-3). She allowed three runs and five hits. She issued three walks and struck out nine. She also had the game-tying RBI-double. Her sister, Jen Meehan, knocked in the game-winning RBI on an infield single.

Haverhill senior Alicia Briggs had a no-hitter denied in the bottom of the sixth, but settled for a one-hitter in an 11-1 rout of Notre Dame. Briggs struck out seven and walked two.
