Division 3 Georgetown starting pitcher Andrew Sinkiewicz pitched a complete game with 14 strikeouts and hit a homerun to help his cause. The Royals won the game 8-2 and move on to the Semifinals. There they will get a second chance at the North Reading Hornets who knocked them out of the quarterfinals last season 10-9.

The division III sixth-seeded Hornets moved on to the Semifinals after beating third-seeded North Shore Tech Bulldogs 3-1 yesterday.  The Hornets (16-6) will face the tenth-seeded Georgetown Royals (16-7)  June 3 at 7 p.m. at Fraser Field-Lynn.

North Reading senior Kevin Singer threw a three-hitter and helped his own cause with three hits, two RBIs and two runs scored as the Hornets coasted over Greater Lowell 8-0 in the Division 3 North first round.

Central Catholic's baseball team hardly worked up a sweat yesterday in a 12-2 Division 1 North first-round rout of Brook Farm of West Roxbury. Tim Wheeler was 2 for 5 with a home run and Brendan Walsh was 3 for 5 with an RBI and three runs scored as the Raiders banged out 15 hits. Meanwhile pitcher Matt Novak and Brian Wolfendale combined on a one-hitter, striking out 11 between them.

LAWRENCE - Andover attacked, pressured and slugged away at Lawrence High with a purpose in every at-bat. Mike Calzetta was just better.

Georgetown freshman pitcher Ryan Browner was dominant again, firing a complete-game six-hitter, as the Royals scored a 3-1 win over Arlington Catholic in the first round of the Division 3 North sectional. Browner allowed just a single run, registering six strikeouts. Georgetown will play either Weston or Amesbury in the quarterfinals.

HAVERHILL - By the time it found a way to nick up Arlington High starter Mike Griffin, the Haverhill High baseball's afternoon and season were pretty much over.

Ronnie Rosario singled sharply to left with one out in the Hillie sixth to end Griffin's no-hit bid. But by that time, Arlington had ridden three Hillie errors to a 9-0 lead, ultimately stopping Haverhill in the Division 1 North tourney opener, 9-2.

Dan Lagasse accounted for all of Londonderry's runs in a 3-1 win over Spaulding. Lagasse (2 for 3) had a two-run double in the first and followed that with an RBI single in the third. The Lancers knocked out eight hits on their way to a 17-2 regular season finish.  Sean Caron also had two hits in the win.

Matt Sheehan ripped a solo homer to lead off the seventh inning, but it was too little, too late as Timberlane fell to Nashua South, 2-1.

Andrew Ruiz-Henriquez (4 for 6, 6 RBIs, 3 runs) smashed a bases-loaded triple in a big 11-run first inning to get the scoring underway in Andover's huge 23-1 victory over Boston English. Jake Ponti, John Hennessy, Dan Gusovsky and Vince Bellino all had multi-hit games for the Warriors, and John Farrell fanned seven in three scoreless innings to earn the win. Andover faces Lawrence tomorrow at 7 p.m. in the First Round.

Andrew Sinkiewicz allowed just two runs while fanning 10 in seven innings and also helped his own cause at the plate with two hits and two RBIs as Georgetown topped Tyngsboro, 9-3, in the Division 3 North preliminaries. Josh Ingram also had a big day at the dish as he went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. The Royals face Arlington Catholic in the First Round tomorrow at 2 p.m.

There was not a lot of great pitching, but Georgetown wasn't complaining after defeating Newburyport 7-6 in the finals of the second annual Bert Spofford Memorial Tournament.

“It’s nice that we were able to come out on top,” said Royals coach Mark Rowe, who’s starting pitchers, Andy Sinkewicz and Ryan Browner walked off with tournament co-MVP honors. “We lost in the championship game last year, honoring Bert, who was really important to us and to be able to win a tournament in his name is a great feeling for me and I know it is for my players as well.”

"This game will not go down in Cooperstown history," said Central Catholic coach Marc Pelletier in reference to the Raiders' 12-11 win over Haverhill yesterday and it's easy to see why. "It was pretty ugly."
