Josh Voto notched two goals and an assist as Central Catholic rolled over Lowell 5-0. Mukena Mbiye also scored twice, and Dan Caruso added a goal and an assist as part of the Raiders' 19-shot assault. Brendan Slein made four saves to record his third shutout of the year.

Omar Khartabil scored the game-winner in overtime | his second goal of the game | as Pinkerton edged Manchester Central 3-2. Sean Kelly scored the other goal for the Astros (7-0-0) while Khartabil and Alex Germaine added assists. Pinkerton goalie Chris Doyle had four saves in the win.

Salem's Oyewole comes back from brain surgery to have an impact for the Witches

Ibrahim Oyewole, 16 of Salem, has overcome many personal struggles in recent years, including the death of his mother and surgery on his brain to remove a tumor, but has persevered as a strong team member of the Salem High School Varsity Soccer team.1 Photo

Ibreham Oyewole is at least 5-foot-11, a slim 175 pounds and gets teased all the time about his physical makeover.

"He was pretty chubby (198 lbs.) last year. We get on him about it all the time," said Salem High soccer teammate Lorjan Koragjozi.

Triton defeats Pentucket

Triton built a 2-0 lead and held on to defeat rival Pentucket 2-1. The host Vikings (1-0-2) got goals from Andrew Goodwin and Pat Martin with assists from Evan Schwarz, Ed Hargreaves, Caleb Noble and Martin. Triton goalies Ben Cross (4 saves) and Ben Norton (3 saves) split time in the win.

North Shore outslugs Fellowship Christian

Mike Silva notched four goals as North Shore Tech beat Fellowship Christian 6-4. The Bulldogs (1-3) first Commonwealth Athletic Conference game of the season was a memorable one, as Tim Gil and Nick Damato also scored in the win while Gil, Kyle Oliva and Joel D'Ambrosio recorded assists. North Shore Tech goalie Joe Acciavatti made five saves.

Great start for Hillie soccer teams

Fred Tarbox, the new Haverhill High School girls' soccer coach, led the Hillies to a 2-1 upset win over Central Catholic in his first coaching debut.1 Photo

As debuts go, well, Randy Moss' first game with the Patriots received more publicity. But Fred Tarbox's first game coaching the Haverhill High School girls soccer team was certainly memorable.

Playing highly touted Central Catholic at Haverhill Stadium, the Hillies defeated the Raiders 2-1 in Tarbox's Haverhill High coaching debut. The win was Haverhill High's first over Central Catholic in girls soccer this decade. Jami Styrczula, the 2006 Merrimack Valley Conference Small School Division Player of the Year, netted both Haverhill High goals. Goalie Christina Gould came up big in net as she made 12 saves to preserve the victory for the Brown and Gold.

NEWBURYPORT | If ever there was a question regarding the intensity of the Newburyport-Pentucket soccer rivalry, it was answered in the closing minutes of last night's sixth annual ALS Cup.

Few in attendance had to check the scoreboard to confirm Pentucket's 2-0 victory in the boys' nightcap. As the referees sounded the final whistle, the Pentucket bench emptied thanks to a herd of sprinting players destined for the celebratory pile of athletes at midfield.
