Brooks defeated Buckingham Brown and Nichols 4-1, lead by Abby Hammerl who scored her second hat trick of the season. Abby had help from her sister Amelia who scored a goal and assisted on another. Marinia Moschitto added two assists.

Andover's girls soccer team qualified for the state tournament with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Masconomet. Gabby Cappello scored with five minutes remaining for the Warriors (5-4-9) on an assist from Lauren Pien.

Amanda Vaudreuil's second-half goal sent the game into overtime, and her tally in penalty kicks clinched No. 1 Salem's 2-1 victory over No. 8 Concord in the Class L quarterfinals. Gina Righini, Tayllar Righini and Sarah Raye each added a goal to set up Vaudreuil in PKs.

Led by a hat trick from Kelley Griffin, No. 2 Londonderry exploded for four goals in the second half on the way to downing No. 7 Winnacunnet 5-1 in the Class L quarterfinals. Tori McCombs opened the scoring and assisted on two of Griffin's goals, and Lydia Simmons had a goal and an assist for the winners.

Brooks School moved Andover's Marina Moschitto from midfield to a forward slot with tremendous results yesterday in a 3-1 win over the Governor's Academy. She had two goals and an assist as the Green and White improved to 8-1-3. Nikki Kisner added a goal and an assist.

In a battle of the Merrimack Valley Conference large school and small school girls soccer champions, Central Catholic and Haverhill battled to a 1-1 tie. But Haverhill coach Fred Tarbox was far from disappointed.

Molly Fitzgerald fired a shot to the top corner and beat the Dracut goalie with 16 minutes remaining, giving Haverhill a 1-1 tie and clinching the Merrimack Valley Small Conference title.

Shannon Snively was a force on defense as Sanborn girls soccer blitzed Hillsboro-Deering, 3-0, in Class M opening-round action. Abby Smith scored twice and Angela Zukas also scored. 

Top-seeded Salem dumped No. 16 Alvirne, 1-0, in its Class L soccer opener. Cassie Chase had the game's lone goal. The score was close but the Broncos had few strong scoring opportunities as Hanna LaRochelle, McKenzie Miller and Avery Neusch dominated defensively. Sarah Snyder (1 save) posted another shutout.

Bentley University senior linebacker Matt Zahoruiko of North Andover has been named the co-Defensive Player of the Week in the Northeast-10 Conference. It’s the second straight week and third time this season.

Haverhill goalie Meghan Gulbrandsen needed 10 saves to tally her eighth shutout season, as the Hillies bested Pentucket 3-0.  Casey Anderson continued her stellar season, scoring all three goals. 

Despite missing six players with the flu, including five starters, Methuen's girls soccer team (8-6-1) defeated Somerville 2-0 to qualify for the state tournament for the first time in nine years.

Cassie Chase scored twice and Jersey Burns added another as the Salem girls soccer team put the finishing touches on an oustanding regular season with a 3-1 win over Exeter in a battle between two of the top three teams in class L.

After missing four weeks of action due to shin splints, Rachel Bourque's fine crossing pass to Alex Riddle in the second half yielded the game's lone goal as Central Catholic edged Andover, 1-0. Ironically, Bourque's last game before her injury was against the Golden Warriors, who were led yesterday by shackling defense from Natalie Gibson and Jenn Caro.

Methuen tripped MVC Small-leading Haverhill, 3-2, to stretch its winning streak to five games. Karen Lima scored twice and Alex Levesque scored a goal for the seventh straight game. Earlier in the week the Rangers dumped a tough Dracut squad.
