Knights finish strong

The North Andover boys ski team finished the regular season with wins over Masconomet and Austin Prep to finish 10-2 and in second place in the North Shore League. Alex Martel won the race for the Knights with a time of 22.27. Martel finished fifth in the overall league rankings, qualifying him for states along with the top-11 skiiers in the league. Andover's Jason Denoncourt won the league with 145 points.

With Austin Prep threatening with runners on first and second and no outs in the top of the sixth, Central's Aidan Abernathy struck out two and got the third to ground out to get out of the threat. Then in the bottom half, he hit a two-run triple to lift the Raiders to a 4-2 win.

Austin ousts Andover

Austin Prep blanked Andover, 3-0, in the Division 1 state girls hockey quarterfinals. Andover coach Kevin Drew said, "They are the best team we've seen. There is nothing like this team. They have 8 or 9 kids who can really go. They had too much firepower. Sean D'Urso (27 saves) held us in there. She's our backbone and Emma Gilmartin played her heart out."

Northern Essex men's basketball beat Ben Franklin Institute 76-67. Adam Goldstein had 18 points, Guney Kilitcioglu 13 points, Alexis Estrella 12 and 5 steals and D.J. Greenhalgh 11 points and 12 rebounds for the 2-1 Knights.
