Frankely Estrella has 14 points and eight rebounds, Oscar Reynoso added 15 points and eight boards and Alexis Estrella scored nine points as Greater Lawrence downed Winthrop 49-38 in the North Reading tourney.

After battling back from a pair of deficits, one as large as three runs, Whittier rode Destiny Jordan's sixth-inning RBI single to a 5-4 victory over Winthrop in the Division 3 North semifinals at UMass Lowell. The Wildcats will take on St. Mary's of Lynn in the sectional final Sunday at Martin Field in Lowell.

The Andover girls hockey team scored twice in the second period, on goals by Veronica Alois and Mikayla Panneton and then held on for a 2-1 Division 1 North victory over Winthrop. Goalie Mackenzie Dutton had 28 saves.

North Andover freshman Nicole Stevens continued to improve from a preseason injury, winning both the bars and Beam (9.3) as the Knights (2-0) whipped Winthrop 128.85-117.25. Jessica Whitehead won the vault and floor and was first in all-around with a 33.05.

WEST NEWBURY — On a day Pentucket celebrated the only two head football coaches to walk the sidelines in 50 years, the Sachems showed the resilience the two coaches have long taught with a dramatic late drive.

Georgetown coach Mike Rowinski said his Royals and Winthrop were like mirror images.

But in the evenly-matched Division 4 North semifinal game,  the Vikings (16-6) got off to a quick start and held off the Royals, 71-58.

Georgetown took on a taller Winthrop team in the first of a home-and-home series and scrapped for a 54-50 victory. Defense was key as Michelle Reilly (10 points and 6 steals) and Rachel Sherman (11 points and 5 steals) created valuable turnovers while Morgan Gott (7 points and 8 rebounds) worked hard in the paint for the Royals.

Michelle Hall won the beam and took seconds in the vault, bars and all-around as North Andover edged Winthrop 140.95-139.5. Meghan Buttress (vault) and Kayla Cromidas (floor) each added a win for the Scarlet Knights.
