While many New Hampshire soccer programs called off their games on Tuesday due to the intense heat, Sanborn stuck it out and earned a season-opening 2-0 win over Newfound. Wyatt Linville scored twice (once on an own-goal), and Zach Ramsdell had 9 saves.

Sanborn's Lexie Basiliere repeated at the 11-team, 3.1-mile Newfound Invitational. She broke the tape in 19:18.

Pelham 152-pounder Rich Sullivan picked up his 100th career win in a 44-27 loss to Windham, recording a pin in the second period. Windham, which got smoked by Pelham last year, improved to 9-6.

Sanborn finished fifth out of 11 schools at the Newfound Invitational. Top finishers Joey Brennan, John Scheidegger and Jordan Hauser all posted personal best times in the meet.

Ginny LaVallee won the 100 hurdles (15.41), 100 dash (12.9), 300 hurdles (54.0) and ran on the winning 4x100 relay for Sanborn in a quad-meet against Newfound, Kennett and Woodsville.

Diminutive goalie Ali Laliberte played far better than the final score indicated in Sanborn's 5-1 loss to unbeaten Newfound. Against the league leaders, Laliberte made several four-star saves while under near-constant pressure as her opponents tossed 33 shots at the Indians' cage.

PELHAM, N.H. | Talk on the Newfound sideline revolved solely on stopping Pelham junior Bruce Vieira.

Talking about it, though, is considerably easier than doing it.

Vieira went over, around and through the Bears for an astonishing six touchdowns and 250 yards in a 47-0 shutout. Winless Newfound showered him with attention, but to no avail.
