Third-seeded Central Catholic boys basketball led by 16 after the first quarter and 48-16 at halftime on its way to an 85-44 rout of No. 14 Chelsea in the first round of the Division 1 North tournament. George Smith had 14 points with four 3s for the Raiders, who will host either Everett or Cambridge on Saturday at 7 p.m.

The 16th-ranked Merrimack College women's lacrosse team lled 9-4 but lost its opener to No. 12 Mercy, 13-12, in North Andover Tuesday.  

         
        Amber Feminella scored five goals in the loss. 

Isaiah Ray knocked down a transition layup with 20 seconds left in the game, and a Greater Lawrence defense led by Chris Tineo made one last stop to clinch the Reggies' 52-50 victory over Chelsea. Ray finished with a team-high 12 points.

Laisha Joaquin scored 17 points and Greater Lawrence rolled over Chelsea 47-17.

Junior Captain Eva Fabino led 13-3 PMA with 12 points in a 44-33 win over Chelsea.

Whittier Tech freshman Staci Krafton erupted for 33 points, which included six 3-pointers, to pace the Wildcats to a 53-38 win over Chelsea. Rachel McGrath and Zaria Collazo dominated on the boards.

Alyssa Michel had 7 kills and an impressive 8 aces to pace Whittier over Chelsea, improving the WIldcats to 12-7.

Kolby Barbieri celebrated her 18th birthday in style. She had a team-high 9 kills, 18 service points and 10 aces as Presentation of Mary punched its ticket to the state tournament with a 3-2 win over Chelsea. The Panthers won the last three sets to pull the comeback victory.

Lissette Perez had a hat trick for the Greater Lawrence girls soccer team but it wasn't enough in a 5-3 loss to Chelsea.
