The Newburyport boys basketball team ran away from Lynnfield late, finishing the game on a 25-10 run in the fourth quarter to win 65-51. Ryan Archie and Casey McLaren each had 17 points as Newburyport improved to 7-1 on the year.

Newburyport girls basketball ran off its fourth win in a row since starting the year 0-3, beating Lynnfield 59-48 thanks to a big second half. The Clippers, now 4-3, are at Georgetown next Tuesday.

Pentucket hockey faced a furious late rally from Lynnfield, but was able to hold on for the 4-4 tie on Saturday. Cam Martin and Richie Hardy each scored two goals with an assist, Dewitt Purcell had three assists and Brady McClung made 33 saves in net.

Double winners

Chelsea Lynch and Maia Esty were both double winners in Amesbury girls track's 57-29 win over Lynnfield on Tuesday. Lynch won the 600-meter run (1:48.5) and the shot put (30-3 1/2) while Esty won the 300 (45.6) and high jump (4-6). Caroline Schissel also won the 55 dash (7.3), Ceara Cronin won the 55 hurdles (9.7), Maddie Ziomek won the 2-mile (13:42) and Mary Kate McElaney won the 1,000 (3:44.1). Amesbury is now 2-0 on the year.

First win

The Amesbury boys track team picked up its first win of the season on Tuesday, beating Lynnfield 54-32. Charlie Schissel placed first in both the 55-meter dash (7.0) and the high jump (6-0), Francisco Laracuente won the 55-meter hurdles (9.0), Andrew Chace won the 2-mile (11:51), Carter Higgins won the 600 (1:34.1), Max Bohler won the 1,000 (3:01) and John Nelson won the shot put (34-11). Amesbury is now 1-1 on the season.

READING — A gallant effort fell short for Pentucket Thursday afternoon in the Division 3 North semifinals.

The Sachems gave favored Lynnfield all it could handle before falling 2-0. One of Lynnfield's goals was kicked in accidentally by a Pentucket player in the first half.

Clippers race ahead

Newburyport boys and girls cross country swept Lynnfield, each improving to 7-0 on the year. The boys won 20-41, with Sam Acquaviva and John Lucey finishing together in first and second, and the girls won 15-49, sweeping the first six places with Ellie Schulson taking first overall.
