Salem breaks through

After coming close but not being able to break the goal line through the first game plus a half, Salem's field hockey team finally broke through and did so in a big way — scoring three times during a win over Nashua North. Chelsea Muldowney ended Salem's 92 minutes without a score and Danielle Ferraro and Megan Martineau added the insurance.

Storming Santo paces Salem

Lauren Santo racked up a game-high six goals and chipped in an assist as Salem dispatched Nashua North, 20-15. Joining the scoring fest, Nicole Rozumek had six points (four goals, two assists) while both Sara Viehl and Avery Neusch tallied hat tricks.

Sophomore Zach Kellogg had four goals and five points in the victory, Mike Durand (goal and three assists) was solid job on both ends and Andrew Robillard played very well on defense for the Lancers (6-6).

Record breaker

Central Catholic's Lauren Berg was named Field Events Athlete of the Meet at the Nashua North Invitational thanks to her first-place, meet-record-breaking javelin throw of 122-4 and her second-place shot put distance of 36-4 3/4. Katie Lafrance, who clocked in at 15.85 in the 100 hurdles, finished third.

Hit parade

Salem tallied 22 hits in 41 at bats in its 25-7 victory over Nashua North. Out of the one and two spots, Stephanie Cabral (3 for 4, five runs) and Jade Morrison (4 for 6, five runs) combined for seven hits and ten runs, and cleanup batter Julia Gray connected on her second homer in just three games. The Blue Devils boasted seven players with at least two RBIs, led by Eric DePinto, who had a game-high five.
