Maslanek still unbeaten

 

Pelham's Conor Maslanek remained unbeaten with another dominating performance, recording two pins, a tech. fall and major decision to take the 195-pound title at the Chelmsford Invitational.  Evan Haskins picked up a third for the Pythons at 160 and Nick Carroll was fourth at 182.

Two milestones hit

The Whittier girls basketball team had plenty to celebrate after Friday's 62-51 win over Mystic Valley. Providence recruit Grace Efosa scored 22 points to go over 1,000 for her career, and 23-year coach Kevin Bradley picked up win No. 350.

Surging Whittier Tech improved to 14-1 with a 66-12 romp over Greater Lawrence. There were no decisions and 12 pins in the match, including 10 by Whittier, the fastest being in 50 seconds by 182-pounder Jack Lemarier.

Surprising Whittier Tech won three more meets, including a 49-24 decision over North Andover for its second in over an MVC school in three days, to improve to 13-1. Anthony Moran was 3-0 at 170 and freshman Jeremy Rousseau won two more matches at 220 abd was one of seven Wildcats who were unbeaten on the day.

Yuki Efosa made a late steal to seal Whittier's come-from-behind 55-53 win over Greater Lawrence. Anthony Couture (13), John Tricoche (13), Ryan Geneus (12) and Abdiel Torre (10) hit double-figures for the Cats.

Whittier Tech continued to surge on the mat, improving to 8-1 with a quad-meet sweep at Pentucket. Lukas Rousseau (138) and Jeremias Collazo (160) continued their fine seasons and, along with Ethan Calderwood (145) and heavyweight Erickson Rivas were all 3-0.

Whittier Tech's girls tightened their defense and got 30 points from Grace Efosa to pull away from Georgetown, 63-44. Sophomores Staci Krafton and Alyah Talley both had 14 points and played good defense.
