Riley Magee had a key RBI double in a three-run fifth and Lawrence's Alex Almonte tied the game in the bottom of the ninth when he tripled and scored on a throwing error. Haverhill's baseball team dropped a tough 2-1 game at St. John's Prep to open the season when the Eagles scored both their runs in the bottom of the seventh. Junior Zach Durso was the hard luck loser despite scattering five hits.

DANVERS — It was a good first day for local wrestlers at the All-State wrestling meet, with a pair of semifinal showdowns set for this morning.
Of particular interest will be the138-pound matchup between Central Catholic's Tyler Glynn (50-2) and Haverhill's Jake Nicolosi (47-4). They met back in December at the WIlmington Tournament with Glynn prevailing.

The St. John's Prep wrestling team smashed Catholic Memorial 72-3 for its 21st straight Catholic Conference title. The Eagles (26-1) have now won 87 straight league meets.

St. John's Prep romped to a tri-meet win to improve to 21-1. There were 11 different Eagles who won both their matches including 170-pounder Ben Shaw of North Andover and 138-pounder Ryan Garlitz, who won his 200th match.

Methuen bounced back from its first loss of the season with three resounding wins in a quad-meet. Unbeatend Jarmany Colon and Matt Cabezas both had three first-period pins for the Rangers (17-1), CJ Brown had three pins at 160 and Zabian Cruz bumped to 152 and had a solid 10-5 win over Framingham Holiday finalist Nick Mazzuchelli of St. John’s.
Read More »Gabe DeSouza and Jake McElroy tied for team-high scoring honors with 14 points apiece and Darren Watson made a big late defensive play as North Andover topped St. John's Prep, 56-53, in the third-place game at the 44th annual Commonwealth Motors Christmas Classic.
Kyle Moore was the No. 3 scorer with nine points and Watson chipped in with eight and some tremendous hustle.
