Brooks jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half and rolled past Suffield 3-1 in the NEPSAC Class B quarterfinals. Jack Brown scored twice for the Green and White (10-4-4) and James Wood also scored. Goalie JJ Calareso only needed to make one save.

Brooks to finals


 The unbeaten Brooks boys soccer team scored a goal in both halves, by Luke Muther and Justin Verissimo, to defeat Suffield Academy 2-0 Saturday in the Class B Prep semifinals. The Green and White (14-0-5) advance to today's championship game at Northfield Mount Hermon against South Kent.

Phillips dominates 4th for comeback win

Phillips loses defensive struggle

ANDOVER — Jim Turner scored on a 1-yard run midway through the fourth quarter and that was the difference as unbeaten Suffield topped Phillips 7-0. The Big Blue (3-2) drove deep into Tiger territory but couldn't cash in. "I'm proud of the kids. This team beat us 35-0 last year," said Phillips coach Leon Modeste. There were plenty of defensive stalwarts for the hosts. John Simourian had 7 tackles, James Antoine notched 6 tackles and a sack, Joe Scibelli had 6 tackles and Adam Cohen contributed 6 tackles and a sack. Phillips at Deerfield, Saturday 3 p.m.

Brooks falls short in semis

Brooks entered halftime tied 26-26, but could not hold on and fell to Suffield Academy 53-45 in the New England Class B semifinals.

"It was a great effort by the kids," said coach John McVeigh. "We played a really good first half, but in the second half we just didn't make enough shots. We defended the way we needed to defend, but it was just not enough offense down the stretch."
