Mackenzie Currie reached double figures for the third straight game with 10 points, Angelina Yacubacci had 16 points and six assists and Angelica Hurley added 11 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists as Pentucket (11-1) rolled past North Reading, 57-34.

Sachems smash school records

The Pentucket girls track team came in third out of 27 scoring teams at Friday's Division 4 State Relays thanks to two relays breaking previous school marks. The 4x200 team of Sabrina Campbell, Emily Rubio, Syeira Campbell and Sage Smith blitzed to first in 1:47.18, shattering the old school record of 1:48.00, and the four then combined to take second in the shuttle hurdle relay in 25.38 (old school record 25.94).

Sachem relay dominates

The 4x200 relay of Sabrina Campbell, Madi Krohto, Emily Rubio and Syeira Campbell ran to victory in 1:48.60, the fastest time in the state so far this year, to highlight Pentucket's performance at the Small School Speed Classic.

Krohto added a second in the 55 hurdles (8.80). Syeira Campbell was runner-up in the 300 (42.32), beating her sister Sabrina Campbell, who was fourth (43.07). All three of those times were personal bests.

Whittier sweeps

 

Whittier Tech opened its season on a high note with a quad-meet sweep of host North Reading (51-30), Wilmington (57-23) and Hopkinton (51-28). Freshman Sebastian Boisvert was 3-0 for his high school debut while 160-pounder Jeremias Collazo and heavyweight Erickson Rivas were also 3-0.

Currie scores OT winner for Pentucket

Mackenzie Currie blasted home a goal in overtime to lift No. 18 Pentucket (12-6-3) to a 1-0 win over No. 10 North Reading (10-4-6) on Thursday. 
 
“Before we went out for overtime, everyone said, ‘Push yourselves, this can’t be our last game,’” said Currie. “We haven’t made it this far since I’ve been alive. We need to keep proving everybody wrong.’”
 
Pentucket will next face No. 11 Wayland (11-4-3) in the Division 3 North semifinals on Tuesday (7 p.m.) at Manning Field in Lynn.

Impressive frosh

 

Pentucket freshman Audrey Conover continued to look impressive, finishing third with the same time as sophomore teammate runner-up Phoebe Rubio as the Sachems beat North Reading 25-32. Both were clocked in 18:20 for 2.74 miles.

Reggies fall to North Reading

 

WEST ANDOVER — Greater Lawrence never quite solved North Reading's most successful offensive play Friday afternoon.

That failure and an 88-yard kickoff return spelled defeat for the Reggies, who dropped to 1-1 on the season after a 35-20 loss to the Hornets.

Clohisy a quad winner

Peter Clohisy had himself a day for Pentucket track. He had four first-place finishes, taking gold in the long jump (19-4), 400 hurdles (59.14), 100 hurdles (16.13) and the triple jump (39-11). The triple jump was a personal best. Colin Costa also set a personal best in the 2-mile (10:45.76), shatting his previous best by 27 seconds.
