HAVERHILL – Not long ago, things looked bleak for the Haverhill boys volleyball squad. With a Covid outbreak and injuries dragging them down, the Hillies were hovering around the .500 mark entering the second week of May.

Liv DeCicco went 2-for-4 with a home run and earned the pitching victory as Haverhill ran over Essex Tech 17-4. The Hillies, who scored 10 in the fifth, ran their record to 11-7 with Jamieson Pearl going 3-5 with a homer and Samantha Dion went 3-5 and drove in three.

Haverhill's Riley Windle celebrated her 18th birthday Friday with a single, double, and three runs driven in as the Hillies qualified for the postseason with a 15-3 win at Andover. Haverhill (10-7) had eight players with at least one RBI, including Liv DeCicco, who allowed no earned runs and earned the win.

Ryan Difloures scored 14 kills and Devon Buscema had 35 assists to lead Haverhill to a 3-0 win over Andover. Reuben Osborne had 14 service points for the Golden Warriors.

Bridget Bernard drove in five runs on a two-hit afternoon and Julianna Roche added four more with her three hits as North Andover rang up 18 hits in a 17-5 victory over Haverhill. Jenna Roche went 3-for-5 and Brigid Gaffny was 2-for-4 from the plate while picking up the decision on the mound. Livvy DeCicco had two RBIs for the Hillies and shortstop Jamieson Pearl rapped a homeer.

Alex Bushey and Sophia Riley each tallied four goals and Katrina Savvas added three of her own as the Hillies rode n 8-3 halftime lead into a 14-7 victory over Georgetown. Riona Dean had nine saves as Haverhill improved to 7-5.

Kya Burdier doubled, and Livvy DeCicco — on her 18th birthday — drove her home for the go-ahead run in the top of seventh, and the Hillies held on to beat Tewksbury 4-3. DeCicco also allowed just one earned run in a complete-game victory.

After dropping a first-step tie-breaker at No. 3 singles against Dracut, Haverhill's Abbey Burrill won each of the next two tie-breakers by scores of 7-4 and 7-6 for one of the Hillies' two victories in a loss to the Middies. Meredith Amirian picked up the other victory in a three-set win at No. 2 singles.

Will McKinnon tallied five goals, including the 100th of his career, and added four assists to lead Methuen to a 17-6 lacrosse victory over Haverhill. Jared Cripps and David Rizzo each had three goals for the Rangers (5-7) and Braeden Carter handed out four assists while also scored a pair.
